Greensboro, NC - Hanes Gymnasium was the sight of the men's basketball home opener on Wednesday night as the Pride fell to Regent University 66-58. Greensboro falls to 0-3 to start the new season with the loss.
It was a struggle offensively in the first half as the Pride shot 7-24 from the floor and 1-7 from long range. Regent, meanwhile, got out to a hot start thanks to Christian Brown, who made 3 three pointers in the first four minutes of the game.Â
As the teams traded buckets throughout the first half, Regent saw themselves ahead 31-24 at halftime. They shot 40% from the floor and 5-8 from the three point line in half number one.
Greensboro got back in the game in the second half as the offense began to come alive. They shot 12-28 in the second half and hit 6 three pointers.
DJ Jackson was big in this one for the Pride, hitting 3 three pointers and scoring 13 points.
Isaiah Pruett also chipped in with 2 three point shots of his own.
Unfortunately, the Royals made big shots down the stretch to seal the win. Brown led the team in scoring with 18 points while Darrin Clark had 12.
Grant Thompson led Greensboro in scoring with 15 points and had 10 rebounds, completing the double-double. Pruett would go on to score 12 for the Pride while dishing out 7 assists.
Ryan Roberts came off the bench to grab 7 rebounds.
The Pride will play this Saturday in the Bridgewater College Invitational against Eastern Mennonite. This will be the second meeting between the teams in as many weeks, with tip-off set for 4:00 pm.
