ROCKY MOUNT, NC- The Greensboro Pride men's basketball team proved a tough foe on Sunday afternoon, trailing by as little as three in the final minute before falling to Eastern Mennonite University 57-50.
Isaiah Pruett led the Pride with 20 points on 6-12 shooting, including 3-6 from three-point range.
Grant Thompson chipped in 10 points and six boards, and
DJ Jackson notched nine points.
Greensboro led 11-9 in the first half before the Eastern Mennonite Royals came awake, going on a 15-2 run that propelled them to a 31-20 lead at the half. Outside of Pruett, the Pride struggled to connect from deep, shooting 5-24 as a team from three.
In the second half, Greensboro chipped away at the Royals' lead, with a layup and two free throws from Pruett cutting the deficit to 53-50 with 31 seconds remaining. But EMU's Payton Lewis and Isaiah Carr would be perfect on four free throw attempts while Greensboro failed to hit on their long-range opportunities down the stretch.
The Pride (0-2, 0-0) head home for their first game at the Hanes Gymnasium this season, playing host to Regent University on Wednesday as the back end of a doubleheader with women's basketball. Tip-off is slated for 7 PM.
