Greensboro, NC - It was a hot day on the soccer pitch Saturday as women's soccer played to a 1-1 draw against Carolina University.
The effort on both sides was strong, as each team had chances to score in the first half. However, great goalie play by
Lindsay Fox and the defensive showing by the Bruins kept the game scoreless through the first 45 minutes.Â
In the second half, Greensboro's efforts finally paid off as
Amery Skinner ripped a shot from 20 yards out to give the Pride a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute. It seemed as though this could be the only goal Greensboro would need in this one, but the Bruins bounced back quickly to tie the game.
In the 69th minute, Ashley Sanchez scored on a free kick from just outside the box to tie the game 1-1. Both teams had good opportunities later in the half, but ultimately couldn't score again.
Skinner's goal was her 9th of the season. Senior goalie
Lindsay Fox had 3 saves for the Pride. Greensboro totaled 8 shots on the afternoon, while the Bruins had 7.
Head coach
Mike Johnston said after the match, "I'm proud of our effort tonight as a group. This team is very resilient and I admire their fight. I thought we did enough to win it in the second half, but we're happy with the result from a hard fought match. Our blue out game raises awareness for those that are impacted by rare diseases and it teaches us all to play for something bigger than ourselves. Thank you to the Austin 1st Foundation and Greensboro College for allowing us to be a part of the fight against rare diseases."

The Pride will play again on Tuesday when they travel to Mary Baldwin for a 4:00 pm battle with the Fighting Squirrels.Â
