Greensboro, NC - Greensboro Women's Basketball (4-14, 4-7) hosted Salem College (7-11, 3-8) on Saturday, and the Pride provided the fans with an exciting come from behind victory led by
Kensie Harris and
Nataya Atwater, 62-56. Head Coach Laquanda Dawkins Prince earned her 100th career win for her career.
The Spirits from Salem got off to a hot start in the first half, going ahead 15-3 near the end of the first quarter. Greensboro's offense struggled throughout the period, but showed signs of life in the last two minutes by going on a 5-2 run.
As the second quarter went on, the Pride quietly cut into the Salem lead. With 3:42 to play in the first half, Greensboro cut the lead to 27-20. It remained a 7 point game going into halftime, but the Pride had momentum and would carry it into the third quarter.
Led by
Kensie Harris and
Nataya Atwater, Greensboro would take their first lead of the game midway through quarter number three. The Spirits went on a run near the end of the period to lead heading into the fourth. Harris and Atwater kept the Pride in the game, and in the final period, pushed Greensboro ahead for good.
The Pride took a 51-49 lead with 6:00 to play and wouldn't relinquish the lead. Harris led the team with 19 points and had a career high 14 rebounds. She led the team in points for the second straight game. Atawater scored 15 points including two huge three point shots.Â
Samiah Mitchell scored in double-figures again, this time scoring 11 points.
Samya Williams put home 7 points and had 9 rebounds in a great defensive effort. In total, the Pride had 15 steals and 24 fast break points. There were a combined 51 turnovers between the two teams.
Greensboro will travel to Southern Virginia University on January 30th to face the top team in the USA South Conference. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
