Greensboro, NC - Greensboro Men's Basketball (8-10, 4-3) earned a big USA South victory over conference leading Mary Baldwin (9-9, 5-2) 58-53 on Tuesday night.
Griffin Powell led the Pride with a career high 16 points, including going 4-6 behind the arc.
Greensboro's defense was stellar all night long. The Fighting Squirrels came into the night averaging 72.1 points per game, and the Pride defense held them to just 53 points. Mary Baldwin shot just 8-28 from the three point line, and shot 35% from the floor.
The teams struggled to score in the first half, as Greensboro led 26-23 at halftime. It took four minutes for the first field goal to be scored. The Pride shot 31% in the first half, while the Fighting Squirrels shot 35%.Â

Griffin Powell took over on offense in the second half, as Brown finished off a double-double, and Powell hit two big three pointers and an ally-oop dunk that brought the Greensboro crowd to its feet.
Tim Boulware scored 10 points on the night for the Pride while
Isaiah Pruett scored 9 points and had 3 assists.
Mary Baldwin drew close multiple times in the second half, but Greensboro held them from going on a run and finished the game from the free throw line. They only had 6 free throw attempts all game, but hit 5 of them.Â
The Pride shot 58% from long range, and out-rebounded Mary Baldwin 38-31. There were only three ties and two lead changes on the contest.
Greensboro will travel to Methodist University on Saturday for a 2:00 PM tip-off.
