Fayetteville, NC - It was a USA South battle at Methodist University as the Greensboro College Women's Basketball team (2-14, 2-7) fell to the Monarchs (11-5, 8-1) 71-53 on Saturday afternoon.
Kensie Harris scored a career high 17 points on 5-9 shooting from the floor.
Methodist got out to a 30-16 lead after the first quarter. The star of the game for the Monarchs was Aniyah Tate, who scored 31 points on 12-16 shooting. Tate was tough to guard all afternoon, and the Pride wouldn't be able to find an answer for her. Methodist then outscored Greensboro 16-8 in the second quarter, taking a 48-24 lead into the half.
Despite the deficit, the Pride battled back in the second half. Greensboro outscored the Monarchs 16-14 in the third quarter and 13-9 in the fourth.
Samiah Mitchell helped Greensboro by scoring 12 points.
Azuria Barrino had 11 points and 7 rebounds.
A big reason for Methodist's success was points in the paint. They scored 40 points in the paint while Greensboro scored 20. The Monarchs bench outscored the Pride bench 24-2. Greensboro shot well from the free throw line, going 20-24.
Overall the Pride shot 30% from the floor (16-53). Greensboro totaled 29 rebounds on the day and the defense collected 9 steals. Other scorers for the Pride included
