Pride Men's Basketball Defeats Piedmont Behind Pruett's 20 Points

Greensboro, NC - Greensboro Men's Basketball (4-7) played their first game of 2024 on Tuesday and defeated Piedmont University (8-4) 83-65. Junior Isaiah Pruett scored a team high 20 points in the win for Greensboro.

The Pride dominated the first half, outscoring the Lions 40-26. As a team, Greensboro shot 51% from the floor and hit 6 three-pointers in the first half. It was more of the same in half number two, as Greensboro scored 43 points and pulled away late to seal the win. 

It was a strong performance from the Pride all the way around. The Lions came into the game scoring over 90 points per game this season, and the Greensboro defense held Piedmont to just 65 points. The Lions shot just 4-16 from long range and 56% from the free throw line.

Greensboro's bench outscored the Lions' bench 24-15. The Pride did a great job on the offensive glass, scoring 17 second chance points. Greensboro out-rebounded Piedmont 40-22 for the game.

Ryan Jolly led the way for the Lions with 20 points. Bailey Wiseman and Fisher Darden scored 8 points each. For the Pride, Matthew Brown had 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Griffin Powell scored 12 points on 4 three-pointers.

After the game, Isaiah Pruett said, "It all starts with the defense...we're just going to continue to work, and at the end of the day we just want to go 1-0 each game."

The team travels to William Peace this Saturday, January 6th to take on the Pacers. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM.
