Women's Basketball Defeated by William Peace 59-55 on Saturday Afternoon

Greensboro, NC - Greensboro Women's Basketball (1-12, 1-5) dropped a close game to USA South rival William Peace (5-9, 3-5) on Saturday afternoon by the score of 59-55. The Pride were led by freshman Kensie Harris, who scored 13 points and collected 9 rebounds.

Greensboro held the lead for much of the first half. The offense shot 37% in the first and second quarters, respectively. The Pride defense was also strong, holding the Pacers to shooting just 33% in the first period and 24% in the second.

William Peace would score 22 points in the third quarter, led by Hannah Lewis. Lewis scored a game high 27 points on 10-19 shooting. She also hit 5 three point shots. Tanaesha Ellison, the team's leading scorer on the season, also scored 24 points.

The game came down to the wire late, as both teams traded buckets in the fourth quarter. The Pacers held a 2 point advantage with 1:30 to play when Ellison was fouled and hit 2 free throws to put William Peace ahead 59-55. The Pride could not get anymore offense going in the final minute and would fail to tie or take the lead.

Greensboro had 30 points in the paint on the afternoon and 18 points off turnovers. The Pride bench scored 23 points. There were a total of 13 lead changes in the game and 7 ties.

Nataya Atwater scored 10 points for Greensboro while Azuria Barrino also scored 10 points and had 4 rebounds. 

The Pride play again on Sunday as they host NC Wesleyan. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM inside Hanes Gymnasium.
