Fayetteville, NC – On Wednesday evening, the Greensboro College Men's Lacrosse team was back on the road for another USA South Conference game. On this night, they would face Methodist University and while they would find the net on numerous occasions, the Pride were unable to leave Fayetteville with the win, falling to the Monarchs by a final score of 16-11.
Methodist took an early one goal lead in the first quarter, but goals from Sophomore
Leo Ringelberg (Waxhaw, NC) and Senior
Austin Abourjilie (Greensboro) gave Greensboro the advantage, 2-1. Thirty seconds later, the Monarchs began a run of three straight goals, but, once again, the Pride answered when Ringleberg scored his second goal of the game. However, as the quarter ended, they would trail 5-3. Junior
Chase Henderson (Greensboro, NC) opened the second quarter with a score and Senior
Gage Kelly (Seminole, FL) found the net a few minutes later, on a man-up opportunity, but Greensboro would trail at halftime, 10-6.
After a Methodist goal to begin the third quarter, Abourjilie and Senior
Dominic Scali (Randolph, NJ) trimmed the lead to only three goals, while Freshman
Collin Henry (Greensboro, NC) stood strong in the goal to keep the deficit at three as the quarter ended. After falling behind by six goals to start the fourth quarter, the Pride began to rally as Junior
DJ Johnson (Greensboro, NC), Sophomore
Caelen Young (Linthicum, NC) and Abourjilie scored three straight goals, two on man-up opportunities, to once again pull to within three goals. However, they were unable to score again and eventually fell, 16-11.
Greensboro was led by Abourjilie, who finished with four goals and one assist, while Ringelberg added two goals of his own. In addition, Junior
John Sheridan (Hampton Bays, NY) picked up seven ground balls and Henry ended the game with nine saves.
The Pride will return to action on Saturday, April 15
th as they host Huntingdon College at Pride Field. Face-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
