Greensboro, NC – In the second game of the Saturday doubleheader, the Greensboro Men's Lacrosse team hosted Huntingdon College at Pride Field for a crucial USA South match-up. It would be a back-and-forth game, with both teams answering each other's goals, but in the end the Pride would fall to the Hawks by a final score of 11-8.
The game did not start the way Greensboro wanted, as Huntingdon scored four straight goals for the early first quarter lead. The Pride would answer with four straight goals of their own as Junior
DJ Johnson (Greensboro, NC), Senior
Austin Abourjilie (Greensboro, NC), twice, and Junior
Chase Henderson (Greensboro, NC) all found the back of the net to tie the game at 4-4. However, to close out the second quarter, the Hawks added two more goals, sending Greensboro into the half trailing 6-4.
As the third quarter began it did not take the Pride long to tie the game, as Abourjilie scored two straight goals to, once again, pull even at 6-6. The two teams continued to answer each other's runs and Sophomore
Caelen Young (Linthicum, MD) ended the quarter with a goal, while Abourjilie scored first in the fourth quarter and all of the sudden the game was tied again at 8-8. Unfortunately, Huntingdon would score three straight goals to close out the game, as Greensboro fell by a final score of 11-8.
The Pride were led by Abourjilie, who finished the game with 5 goals and Henderson who was 16-21 in face-offs, picking up 10 ground balls, to go along with one goal.
Greensboro will return to action on Wednesday, April 19
th as they travel to Raleigh to face William Peace University. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
