Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pride storm back from 21-point deficit, but fall on the road at Brevard, 74-72

Brevard, NC – As the end of the regular season was soon approaching, the Greensboro College Men's Basketball team hit the road again for a USA South conference match-up with the Brevard College Tornados.  The two teams had previously met in January with the Tornados earning the victory, and tonight the Pride would storm back from a 21-point deficit, by fall short by a final score of 74-72.

The first half began with Brevard grabbing a quick 10-point lead, until Junior Matthew Brown (Orlando, FL) made two straight Greensboro layups, after a 30- second timeout.  Unfortunately, the Tornados would go on a run to go ahead by 18-points, but a three-pointer by Junior Amillia Huggins (Greensboro, NC) slowed things down.  Both teams would trade baskets for the next few minutes, which allowed Brevard to keep their double-digit advantage.  Junior Mason Sergi (Ashburn, VA) trimmed the lead to 32-19 and then, with 5:29 remaining in the half, Junior Tim Boulware (Greensboro, NC) pulled the Pride to within 11 points, 34-23.  But as the half was coming to an end, the Tornados built their lead back up, sending Greensboro into the locker room trailing, 45-26.

The Pride fell behind by over 20 points to start the second half, but they started to find their rhythm and after a Senior Ty Hill (Shallotte, NC), the Brevard lead was trimmed to only 11 points, 49-38.  Senior Kevon Wright (Greensboro, NC) Junior Isaiah Pruett (Ashville, NC) kept Greensboro in the game and then baskets from Junior Erik Alvey (Durham, NC) Boulware cut the lead to single-dights at eight points.  With 6:05 left in the game, Boulware converted a three-point play, followed by Alvey free throws and suddenly the score was only 67-64.  Pruett cut the lead to one, which was followed by a Wright layup, giving the Pride their first lead of the game, 68-67.  The Tornados regained a two-point advantage and as the game came to an end, Brown was unable to convert a driving layup and Greensboro would fall, 74-72.

Brown led all scorers with 18 points, to go along with his 12 rebounds, while Wright finished with 13 points.  In addition, Boulware added 11 points and Pruett finished the game with 10 points.  The Pride will be back in action Saturday, February 11th as they return home to Hanes Gymnasium to host North Carolina Wesleyan University on Senior Day.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
