Danville, VA - Freshman
Evan Sykes (Graham, NC), Senior
Connor Morehouse (Kansas City, MO) and this week's USA South Rookie of the Week, Freshman
Brody Gardner (Asheboro, NC) each hit double's, while Freshman
Hudson Powell (Greensboro, NC) and Junior
Cameron Edmonds (Whitsett, NC) both drove in runs to help the Greensboro College Baseball team pull off their second come from behind 10-inning game in three days, as they defeated Averett University, 3-2. Five Pride pitchers combined for nine strikeouts and three walks, with Junior
Alex Trepper (Tampa, FL) coming away with the win. It was the first road trip of the year for Greensboro and their first against an ODAC opponent. With the victory, the Pride moves to 3-1 on the season.
The Cougars took an early 2-run lead after the 3rd-inning and were able to keep Greensboro off of the scoreboard, however in the 8th-inning an Edmonds single, drove home Sykes to pull the Pride to within, 2-1. In the top of the 9th-inning, smart at bats by Greensboro helped them load the bases and then Powell was able to draw a walk of his own, to bring in Gardner for the tying run, which would ultimately force extra innings. In the 10th-inning, the Pride, once again, loaded the bases, which brought Freshman
Gavin Fleming (Gibonsville, NC) to the plate for a chance to drive in the go ahead run. With the count at 2-0, Fleming popped a ball to right field, but the right-fielder was unable to make a play, allowing Morehouse to come home, giving Greensboro their first lead of the game, 3-2. In the bottom of the 10th-inning, Trepper was solid on the mound, shutting down Averett to secure the win for the Pride.
Greensboro will travel back to Virginia on Wednesday as they face another ODAC opponent, Roanoke College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00pm.
