Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball opens the season with win over Lycoming, 11-2

Greensboro, NC - Senior Samuel Hayen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) went 2-4, with a HR, 1 RBI and scored two runs, while Sophomore Cam Watts (Kernersville, NC) finished 2-3, with an RBI and a double to help the Greensboro College Baseball team to an Opening Day win over Lycoming College at Ted Leonard Park, 11-3.

The two teams were originally scheduled to play on Friday, but due to the weather the schedule was changed to a one nine inning game om Saturday afternoon.  It would be a historical game for the Warriors as it was the school's first baseball game in 52 years.  The Pride would get on the board first with two sacrifice flies from Freshman Brody Gardner (Asheboro, NC) and Senior Connor Morehouse (Kansas City, MO) , for the 2-0 lead, but Lycoming was able to tie things up with a two-run homer.  However, in the 4th inning, Gardner came to the plate and smacked a double, driving in Watts and eventually Gardner would score, after stealing home.  In the 7th and 8th innings, Greensboro's bats came alive when Hayen hit a homerun over left field and a few batters later, Freshman Alden Kolessar (Summerfield, NC) drove a ball to right-center field, scoring Morehouse.  Kolessar would eventually score as well, on a Watts sacrifice fly.   Junior Cameron Edmonds (Whitsett, NC), Morehouse, Kolessar, and Freshman Hudson Powell (Greensboro, NC) continued the offensive output and as they final out was recorded, Greensboro would come away with their first win of the season, by a final score of 11-3.

The Pride will return to action tomorrow against the Warriors with a nine-inning ame, followed by a seven-inning game.  First pitch is scheduled for 11:00am at The Ted.
