Buena Vista, VA – Even though the Greensboro College Women's Basketball team had already wrapped up the USA South Conference Regular Season Title and the #1 seed in next week's tournament, the Pride were not thinking ahead and were solely focused on their game at Southern Virginia University. The Knights had a lot to play for, in regard to seeding, and Greensboro wanted to continue to keep their win streak alive, and they would do just that coming away with the win, 82-70.
While Southern Virginia would take a quick lead to start the first quarter, Sophomore
Audrey Jennings (Elkin, NC) would answer with a three-pointer, which was followed by a layup from Senior
Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC). Eventually a three-pointer from Senior
Aliyah Whiteside (Spindale, NC) pushed the lead to double-digits and after a Legette layup, the advantage had increased to 23-9. The second quarter saw the Knights cut the lead to four points but Sophomore
Lauren Livingston (Greenwood, SC) and Jennings got hot to, once again, give the Pride a double-digit advantage. They would remain in the lead and as the teams headed to the locker room, Greensboro found themselves leading, 40-31.
Legette helped the Pride jump back out to a 12-point advantage as the third quarter began but at the 5:33 mark, Southern Virginia was able to pull back to within five points. They continued to chip away and trimmed the advantage to four points, as the quarter came to an end, but in the fourth quarter, Greensboro began to pull away with three-pointer by Legette and a jumper from Livingston. Whiteside would add another basket and, as they have done all season, the Pride closed out the game with the win, 82-70.
Legette led all scorers with 27 points, going 12-19 from the field, while Livingston added 21 points to go along with 8 assists. Jennings added 14 points and continued her dominance at the free throw line finishing 7-8. Greensboro will be back in action Tuesday, February 21
st as they host Salem College in the quarterfinal round of the USA South Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
