Greensboro, NC – After earning the USA South Regular Season Title, the Greensboro College Women's Basketball team, opened tournament play on Tuesday night at Hanes Gymnasium as the #1 seed hosting #8 seed Salem College in the quarterfinals. It would be the third time the two teams have met this season, and the Pride would win their third in a row against the Spirits by a final score of 109-68.
Greensboro wasted no time setting the pace for the game and after two straight three-pointers from Senior
Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC) and Sophomore
Audrey Jennings (Elkin, NC) they held an early first quarter lead, 12-0. Several minutes later a Senior
Karli Mason (Monroe, NC) three-pointer increased the Pride's advantage to 22 points and as the quarter came to an end, they found themselves leading 26-12. They continued to control the game in the second quarter, as Mason drained another three-pointer, for their largest advantage of the game at 28 points. Jennings would score three straight baskets to close out the half, sending Greensboro into the locker room with the lead, 65-37.
Jennings continued to find the basket in the third quarter and eventually she was able to push the Pride advantage to 40 points. A three-point play by Senior
Aliyah Whiteside (Spiindale, NC) and another Jennings basket, allowed Greensboro to remain ahead by over 40 points. In the fourth quarter, the Pride were able to rest their players and those who came in took complete advantage of their playing time. Sophomore
Tamera Hooker (Fayetteville, NC) would drain a three-pointer, while Junior
Nataya Atwater (Hampton, GA), Freshman
Jasmine Mitchell (Charleston, SC) and Freshman
SiaDeriel Oliver (Ocala, FL) each made baskets of their own to help secure the win for Greensboro, 109-68.
Jennings led all scorers with 31 points, while Legette added 20 points. In addition, Mason added 17 points, finishing 5-9 behind the three-point line and Junior
Quadijah Moore (Greenwood, SC) finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds. With the win the Pride advance to the USA South Semifinals, where they will host #4 seed Southern Virginia University at Hanes Gymnasium. Tip-off time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
