Brevard, NC – The Greensboro College Women's Basketball team began a two-game road trip to finish the 2022-2023 regular season on Wednesday night. Their first stop was a few hours away as they faced Brevard College in a USA South match-up. While the Pride had already clinched the regular season title and the #1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, they still had a lot to play for and they knew the Tornadoes would be looking for the upset. However, Greensboro continued their strong play to come away with the road win over Brevard, 92-62.
A Senior
Karli Mason (Monroe, NC) three-pointer opened up the first quarter, which was followed by baskets from Sophomores
Lauren Livingston (Greenwood, SC) and
Audrey Jennings (Elkin, NC) for the early lead, 7-0. Jennings would eventually add a three-pointer of her own, in addition to a layup by Sophomore
Aijah Palmore (Greensboro, NC,) and suddenly the Pride had jumped out to a 14-point advantage. They would continue to keep that lead and as the quarter came to an end, the Pride led, 24-12.
The Tornados began the second quarter by pulling to within 10 points, but Livingston, Palmore and Jennings continued to score, giving Greensboro their largest lead of the game, so far, 38-18. Jennings began to dominate the scoring to help the Pride increase their advantage to 26 points, while their defense shut down any offensive opportunities Brevard would have. The lead would stay in double-digits and as the teams headed to the locker rooms, Greensboro found themselves ahead, 51-33.
As she did to begin the game, Mason drained a three-pointer to start the third quarter and that was followed by a Livingston layup and a Senior
Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC) three-point play to push the lead back to over 20 points. Two straight layups from Jennings, and baskets from Legette and Junior
Quadijah Moore (Greenwood, SC), continued to help the Pride control the game and after a few more strong possessions, Greensboro ended the quarter with a 29-point lead, 77-48.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Jennings drove in for a layup and converted a three-point play to give the Pride their first 31-point advantage of the game. A few possessions later, the family duo of Freshman
SiaDeriel Oliver (Ocala, FL) and Sophomore
Sia'Deriona Oliver (Ocala, FL) scored back-to-back-to-back baskets completing the scoring for the night and as the buzzer sounded, Greensboro would come away with the win over the Tornados, 92-62.
