Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Pride fall to Guilford in Battle of the 'Boro

Greensboro, NC - Tuesday night featured two teams only separated by a few miles coming toghether for what some call the Battle of the 'Boro or the Battle of the GC's.  Whatever someones calls it, when the Greensboro College Men's Lacrosse team and Guilford College get together you can expect a hard fought game and that is just what the fans saw at Pride Field between the Pride and Quakers.

The first quarter saw Guilford get on the board first with two straight goals, but Senior Austin Abourjilie (Greensboro, NC) took a pass from Senior Thyree Carson (Greensboro, NC) to trim the lead to only one goal and that is all the scoring that would occur in the first 15 minutes.  The Quakers found the net again in the second quarter, but Abourjilie and Junior Aaron Larios-Neubert (Beaverton, OR) scored two in a row to even things up at 3-3.  After another Guilford goal, Sophomore Caelen Young (Linthicum, MD) helped Greensboro pull even again, but as the half ended, the Pride found themselves trailing, 5-4

Unfortunately, the third quarter saw the Quakers score six straight goals to take a seven-point advantage.  The Pride were unable to get settled on offense, but in the fourth quarter they began to come together.  A goal by Junior Jack Sheridan (Hampton Bays, NY), followed by two straight from Larios-Neubert pulled Greensboro to within five, 12-7.  However, they were not able to get any closer and as the final horn sounded, the Pride fell to Guilford by a final score of 15-8.

Larios-Neubert led Greensboro with 4 goals and 1 assists, while Abourjilie finished the game with 2 goals.  In addition, as a team they picked up 11 ground balls and were 1-3 on man up opportunities.  The Pride will return to action Saturday, February 18th as they travel to Georgia to face Berry Univeristy.  Face-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
