Greensboro, NC – As the second game of a Saturday doubleheader, the Greensboro College Women's Basketball team honored its four Seniors, who would be playing their final regular season game in Hanes Gymnasium. Seniors
Egypt Alexander (Salisbury, NC),
Karli Mason (Monroe, NC),
Aliyah Whiteside (Spindale, NC) and
Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC), along with their families and friends, were recognized prior to tip-off for the outstanding contributions to the Pride program. It was an emotional scene, but there was also a game to be played, as Greensboro and Pfeiffer University would face off for the second time this season.
The start of the first quarter saw the Falcons get on the board first, but Legette answered by converting a three-point play, to give the Pride the one-point advantage. Another Legette layup, followed by a Whiteside jumper, put Greensboro ahead, 7-2. The advantage would eventually increase to seven points, but with a little over two minutes remaining in the quarter, Pfeifer had suddenly grabbed a one-point lead. However, Sophomore
Lauren Livingston (Greenwood, SC) and Junior
Quadijah Moore (Greenwood, SC) each made baskets to end the quarter with the Pride leading, 23-21. Greensboro's offense began to find its way in the second quarter as Moore dominated down low, while Legette, Sophomores
Aijah Palmore (Greensboro, NC) and
Audrey Jennings (Elkin, NC) all took advantage of their scoring opportunities to send the Pride into the locker room leading, 45-39.
A three-point play by Palmore gave Greensboro a nine-point advantage to start the third quarter. Eventually the Falcons were able to pull to within one point, but the Pride would, once again, find the hot hand, as Moore and Jennings combined to score the next 10 straight points. They would keep a double-digit lead for most of the quarter and as it came to an end, they were out in front, 66-58. In the fourth quarter, Greensboro began to take control of the game, going ahead by 17 points after two free-throws by Jennings. With 1:44 left in the game, Whiteside was fouled on a three-point attempt and she proceeded to make all three free-throws and as the final buzzer sounded, the Pride would defeat Pfeiffer by a final score of 96-71.
Jennings led Greensboro with 25 points, while Moore finished 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks. In addition, Legette finished with 19 points and 6 steals and Livingston dished out a total of 7 assists. Palmore grabbed a total of 23 rebounds, which was the third best single game in the history of the program. The Pride will return to action Wednesday, February 15
th as they travel to Brevard College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
