Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Pride open up 2023 season with home win over Saint Andrews, 16-4

Greensboro, NC – Graduate Student Seth Mandryk (Manitoba, CA) and Junior Aaron Larios-Neubert (Beaverton, OR) each scored three goals, while Senior Goalie Edward Rowley (Brockport, NY) tallied 11 saves, as the Greensboro College Men's Lacrosse team opened the 2023 season with a home win over Saint Andrews University, 16-4.

The Knights were able to get on the board first, to start the first quarter, but the Pride would have an answer, scoring three straight goals, as Senior Thomas Poole (Hillsborough, NC), Larios-Neubert, and Junior DJ Johnson (Greensboro, NC) each found the net.  Saint Andrews added two more scores, but Greensboro finished off the quarter leading 4-3.  They would continue the scoring with Junior William Beyer (Greensboro, NC) getting two past the Knight's goalie and as the half came to an end, the Pride's lead had increased, 6-3.

Greensboro came out of the locker room finding the net twice, to start the third quarter, with goals from Senior Austin Abourjilie (Greensboro, NC) and Senior Dominic Scali (Randolph, NJ) and then the defense began to settle in to deny Saint Andrews any opportunity to make a run.  While the Knights were able to find the goal toward the end of the quarter, that would be the last goal the Pride would give up in the game.  Greensboro would take advantage of that, as they rallied off eight straight goals in the fourth quarter, getting scores from Mandryk, who had two, Senior Gage Kelly (Seminole, FL), Sophomore Caelen Young (Linthicum, MD), Larios-Neubert, with two, Abourjilie and Johnson.  That scoring helped the Pride earn the win over Saint Andrews, in front of the home crowd, 16-4.

In addition to the scoring leaders, Senior Ryan Buchanan (Havelock, NC) led Greensboro with 5 ground balls, while Scali and Junior Chase Henderson (Greensboro, NC) each picked up four.  In addition, the Pride were 26-29 in clear opportunities and capitalized six times on man-up chances.  Greensboro will return to action this Tuesday as they host Guilford College.  Face-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
