Greensboro, NC – The first half of a Wednesday doubleheader saw the Greensboro College Men's Basketball team host Southern Virginia University at Hanes Gymnasium. The Pride were riding a three game win streak but unfortunately it would be a tale of two halves as they fell to the Knights by a final score of 73-60.
The two teams traded a few baskets to start the first half, but after a three-pointer from Junior
Matthew Brown (Orlando, FL) Greensboro would take a five point lead, 11-6. Junior
Rujon Walters (Kinston, NC) pushed the advantage to eight points, and he followed that up with a three-pointer of his own a few possessions later. Southern Virginia was able to pull to within one point, but a
Junior Isaiah Pruett (Asheville, NC) three-pointer and two free throws by Brown, increased the lead back to six points, 36-29. A layup from Senior
Ty Hill (Shallotte, NC) and then a dunk by Junior
Josh McQuinn (Westfield, NC) sent the Pride into the locker room with the advantage, 39-30.
The second half saw Greensboro hold their nine-point advantage for the first four minutes, however, the Knights would begin to chip away at the deficit. Eventually, the Pride found themselves trailing, 46-43 but Brown would convert two free throws to pull to within one point. With 6:02 remaining in the game, the deficit would grow to 11 points for Greensboro and they were unable to cut into it and as the buzzer sounded, the Pride would fall at home, 73-60.
