Rocky Mount, NC - The Greensboro Men's Basketball team (2-3) traveled to Rocky Mount, NC to play in the Roger Taylor Invitational Friday night against Newport News Apprentice School (1-3). The Pride would come out on top in this one 73-59 thanks in large part to the performance of
Grant Thompson, who scored 15 points and came down with 9 rebounds.
Early in the first half both teams traded buckets before Greensboro took a 13-10 lead on a
Griffin Powell three pointer. They then extended the lead 21-10 as part of an 11-0 run. The lead then grew to 16 after a layup by
Tim Boulware. Thompson would later hit a layup to bring the lead up to 33-13. The Pride played solid all night on both ends of the court. Greensboro ended the first half on 5-0 run to take a 42-20 lead into the halftime break.Â
The Builders from Apprentice started the second half well and cut the lead to 17 points. With 14 minutes to play Greensboro's lead was cut to 49-35 after a jump shot by Apprentice's Clifton Goode. After a few back and forth possessions, the Pride's lead dwindled to just 11 points after a Karree Smith Layup for the Builders.
Javion Majette helped the Pride stay ahead by double digits with a strong second half. For the game Mejette totaled 14 points.
With 5:13 left in the game, Greensboro's lead was down to 7 points. Isaiah Pruitt helped keep Apprentice at bay after a layup and two free throws put the Pride back up by 11.
Matthew Brown hit a layup soon after, and Greensboro would stay ahead and extend the lead as the game wound down. Majette and Powell scored the last 4 points of the game for Greensboro on free throws as the Pride finished off their second win in a row.

Jim Boone after the game said, "I'm really proud of our group. We played really hard verse an outstanding, well coached, and very athletic team. Some teams may have folded in that second half. Our guys were relentless and gutted out a great win."
Matthew Brown was active on the boards as he collected 13 rebounds on the night.
Isaiah Pruett scored 12 points, while
Tim Boulware added 13 points of his own. The team shot 19-25 from the free throw line and 25-53 from the floor. They also shot 4-13 from long range.
