Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Brown Scores 1,000th Career Point in Win Over Mid-Atlantic Christian

Rocky Mount, NC - The Greensboro Men's Basketball team (3-3) won its third game in a row on Saturday as they defeated Mid-Atlantic Christian University (0-7) 68-65. Pride senior Matthew Brown scored his 1,000th career point to cap off the victory.

The game stayed close throughout the first half as neither team had a larger lead than 9 points. Early in the game, Greensboro got out to an 8-4 advantage after a Grant Thompson jump shot. Later, Tim Boulware hit a three pointer to extend the lead to 11-4. The Mustangs closed the gap a few minutes later after a fastbreak layup brought the Pride lead to just 2 points.

The Mustangs would take the lead soon after, and from there the teams traded the lead multiple times throughout the half. With 42 seconds left in the first half, Matthew Brown made a layup on an assist by Isaiah Pruett and Greensboro would take a 37-36 lead into the halftime break.

The teams continued to trade buckets in the second half. The lead changed hands twelve times throughout the game as neither team could gain much of an advantage. With 9:18 to go in the game, Griffin Powell hit a three pointer to give the Pride a 54-50 lead. A few minutes later the Mustangs went on a run to take the lead back with 7:05 to play.

Isaiah Pruett tied the game again with 4:47 to play after a made free throw. Joshua Tyler then hit a shot from long range for the Mustangs to give them a 65-53 lead as the game came down to the wire. Grant Thompson stepped to the free throw line with 1:13 to play and sank two free throws to tie the game once again. With just 23 seconds remaining, Javion Majette got fouled and had the chance to give the Pride the lead. Majette hit one free throw and Greensboro led 66-65.

Matthew Brown came up with a huge block with 10 seconds left in the game that was rebounded by Tim Boulware. Boulware would miss two free throws after being fouled, which gave the Mustangs one last shot to take the lead. However, the Mustangs would turn the ball over with 3 seconds left and Greensboro finished off the game with two free throws by Grant Thompson.

Matthew Brown, a senior from Orlando, FL, scored his 1,000th career point Saturday. Brown said after the game, "I am honored and blessed to have achieved such a milestone. I really owe everything to all the teammates and coaches I've had. I'm hopeful I can help set the tone for our program moving forward."

The Pride take the court again December 10th when they host Guilford College inside the Greensboro Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM.
