Greensboro, NC - Saturday afternoon the Greensboro Men's Basketball team (1-3, 0-0) defeated Carolina University (1-7, 0-2) inside Hanes Gymnasium by the score of 97-60. The Pride dominated with 70 points in the paint while shooting 59% overall from the floor.
Greensboro controlled the game throughout as the Bruins could not stop the Pride down low. Greensboro got out to an early 8-2 lead after
Matthew Brown and
Isaiah Pruett scored back-to-back layups. Carolina University would tie the game 8-8 after a three point shot by Peyton Compton. The Bruins shot 10-34 on the night from beyond the arc.
The Pride then went on a 13-0 run to make the score 25-10 midway through the first half. The teams would trade buckets until the Bruins' offense got hot, and brought the score to 33-29 with just over 4 minutes to play in the half. This stretch was helped by a strong press defense Carolina University put on Greensboro, but the Pride would adjust and pull away again as the half closed. Greensboro went on an 8-0 run to end the first half ahead 47-33.
The second half was dominated by the Pride thanks to strong offensive play and defense that wouldn't give the Bruins many open shots. After an opening bucket by Carolina University, Greensboro went on another big run, this time 16-0, and the lead would continue to grow from there.
Isaiah Pruett hit back-to-back shots with just under 14 minutes to grow the lead to 68-37.
Greensboro continued to pull away late in the second half and finished off their first victory of the season. Pruett,
Javion Majette,
