Hampden-Sydney, VA - The Greensboro Pride Men's Basketball team opened up their 2023-2024 season on the road as they faced off against #8 ranked Hampden-Sydney College. The Tigers would come out on top in this one 74-48 in Pride head coach

Hampden-Sydney got off to a hot start as they began the game on an 8-0 run. Greensboro's
Grant Thompson got the Pride on the scoreboard with two free throws four minutes into the first half.
Greensboro would cut the lead to 21-10 after a
Caleb Pendleton jumper with 9:30 left to play in half number one. Pendleton would finish the game with 5 points on 2-9 shooting from the floor. The Tigers would then go on a 9-0 run to grow the lead to 30-10.
Javion Majette did what he could to help the Pride claw back into the game after scoring back-to-back buckets with just under four minutes to play. At the end of the first half Hampdon-Sydney would take a 39-22 lead. The #8 ranked Tigers were tough in this one, hitting 9 three-pointers in the contest.
Tim Boulware and Majette were able to get the Pride on the board early in the second half, but Hampdon-Sydney's offensive firepower helped the Tigers extend their lead as the second half went on. A Majette jumper with 17 minutes to play cut the lead to 45-29 as Greensboro gave it all they had against one of the top DII teams in the country.
Hampdon-Sydney would pull away in the second half to secure the victory and improve their record to 2-0 on the season. Ayman McGowan led the Tigers with 14 points in this one, while Greensboro was led by Majette who scored 11 points.
Overall the Pride shot 32% from the floor while going 2-13 from long range.
Matthew Brown and
Tim Boulware combined for 14 points for Greensboro.
Greensboro will hit the court again this Wednesday as they travel to Averett University for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
