Greensboro, NC - The Greensboro College Pride Women's Volleyball team hosted conference foe Brevard College on a chilly Tuesday Halloween night in Hanes Gymnasium. Prior to the match, Head Coach Kevin Troup honored his two seniors
Lauren Mantel and
Jade Vrobel. The Pride's strong efforts saw them finish the match on top of the Tornados with a 3-0 final.
The Pride started the first set in exciting fashion with multiple lay outs to force rallies to continue play. Initially, it was back and forth between the Pride and Tornados until the match took a turn with a
Morgan Mayfield service ace setting the score 19-15. The Pride would run away with set 1 tallying seven straight points to notch it at 25-15.
The second set would accelerate much quicker with three harsh kills by the Pride's front row. The scoreboard quickly read 13-7 for the Pride to coast to another 25-15 set win.
In the third and final set the Pride would show no mercy and would quickly take control to run away with the match with a 25-16 score.
For the Pride it was a full team effort.
Jade Vrobel,
Taylor Cotie and
Krista Brantley all tallied 9 kills apiece in the match. Freshman libero,
Morgan Mayfield finished the evening with 25 digs respectively. Sophomore
Payton Shiflet had a solid night putting down 8 kills and 21 digs.
Ashley Hoxit lead the way for the Tornados with 4 kills and 14 digs. Kaitlyn Pressley put down 4 kills and had 10 digs of her own. Caitlin Hagarty and Bailey Lance contributed 14 digs each, respectively.
The Pride head to Meredith College Saturday, November 4th to finish out the regular season. Match time is slated for 1:00pm.
