Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to Meredith; Will host Brevard in USA South Quarterfinals

Box Score Raleight, NC - The Greensboro Pride volleyball team played a five set match against USA South rival Meredith on Saturday, falling 3-2 in an exciting match to end the regular season. The Pride finish second in the regular season standings and will host Brevard this Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the USA South Conference Tournament. 

Greensboro played well the first two sets, but ultimately fell to the Avenging Angels after they came from behind to take both sets. In the first set, Meredith took the win 25-23. The Pride held a 21-18 advantage late in the set, but Meredith stormed back to steal the win from Greensboro.

Set number two saw another close battle, as the Avenging Angels again came from behind to take the set. Down 21-18, Meredith scored four straight points to take a one point lead, and eventually finishing the set by winning 25-22.

Greensboro dominated the third set by a score of 25-10, as the Pride controlled the entire set from start to finish. Greensboro again controlled set number four, as they tied the match 2-2 after a 25-17 victory. The match would come down to a decisive fifth set to finish the regular season for both teams.

Meredith would come out on top 15-10 in the final set after scoring five straight points after the teams were tied 8-8. Despite the loss, Greensboro finishes the regular season with a 18-10 overall record and 14-4 in USA South Conference play. The Pride will be the #2 seed in the USA South Conference Tournament, which begins Tuesday inside Hanes Gymnasium.

Payton Shiflet let the way for Greensboro in this one, as she had 30 kills in the match. Taylor Cotie finished with 13 kills, while Krista Brantley came through with 7 kills. Jaylyn Templeton collected 52 assists on the day, and Morgan Mayfield came through with 28 digs. 

Tuesday's quarterfinals match will see the Pride host Brevard, with the time TBD. Greensboro defeated the Cyclones last Tuesday 3-0.
