Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Greensboro pulls away at home to defeat NC Wesleyan, 82-69

Greensboro, NC – The Greensboro College Women's Basketball team was back in the friendly confines of Hanes Gymnasium on Wednesday night, as they welcomed in USA South foe North Carolina Wesleyan.  A few weeks ago, the two teams met in Rocky Mount, NC, with the Pride coming away with the seven-point win and they would make it a season series sweep defeating the Battling Bishops, 82-69.

Junior Quadijah Moore (Greenwood, SC) started the scoring as the first quarter began, but NC Wesleyan eventually was able to build a five-point advantage, 14-9.  Senior Aliyah Whiteside (Spindale, NC) would drain two straight three-pointers to put Greensboro back out in front, but the Battling Bishops had an answer to recapture the lead at 16-15.  The two teams would trade the advantage again, however as the quarter came to an end NC Wesleyan held the lead, 19-18.

The second quarter began with Senior Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC) hitting a jumper in the paint but NC Wesleyan, once again, was able to regain the lead and build it to three points.  A few possessions later Moore and Sophomore Audrey Jennings (Elkin, NC) converted back-to-back baskets and suddenly the Pride had regained the lead, 29-25.  As it did in the first quarter, the advantage continued to change hands, but free-throws by Sophomore Lauren Livingston (Greenwood, SC) gave Greensboro the lead heading into the half, 37-34.

The Pride successfully converted their free-throws to start the third quarter and after a layup from Moore, they had their largest lead of the game at seven points.  A layup and jumper by Legette pushed the score to 57-45 and anytime the Battling Bishops would score, the Pride had an answer.  The defense continued to force low percentage shots and at the end of the quarter, Greensboro led, 60-49.

Senior Karli Mason (Monroe, NC) drained a three-pointer a few possessions into the fourth quarter and that was followed by a three-point play from Sophomore Aijah Palmore (Greensboro, NC) to give the Pride the advantage, 70-53.  Jennings, Legette and Whiteside would keep the scoring going for Greensboro and after a Moore layup, the game would end with the Pride earning the win, 82-69.

Legette led Greensboro with 19 points and 6 rebounds, while Moore finished with 15 points and Jennings finished with 12 points.  In addition, Livingston dished out a total of 8 assists.  The Pride will return to action on Saturday, January 28th as they travel to Salem College for another road conference game.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
