Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pride end January with the road win over Salem, 99-67

Winston-Salem, NC – Coach Heather Macy stated on her Friday Coach's Show, that she had challenged her team to finish the month of January without a loss and Saturday's game at Salem College would give the Greensboro College Women's Basketball team the opportunity to do just that.  The two teams had met earlier in the month, with the Pride earning the win, and they would do it again to answer their Coach's challenge, defeating the Spirits, 99-67.

Sophomore Lauren Livingston (Greenwood, SC) opened up the first quarter with a basket and that was followed by two straight three-pointers by Sophomore Audrey Jennings (Elkin, NC) and Senior Karli Mason (Monroe, NC).  Livingston added a three-pointer of her own, to give Greensboro the lead, 11-0 and that advantage eventually grew to 21 points after a Junior Quadijah Moore (Greenwood, SC) layup.  The scoring would continue and at the end of the quarter, the Pride held a 24-point lead 32-8.

As the second quarter began, Mason scored five straight points and then Sophomore Aijah Palmore (Greensboro, NC)  was able to drive in for a layup, increasing Greensboro's lead to 39-13.  The Spirits trimmed the advantage to 19 points, but Jennings converted another three-pointer, followed by a driving layup by Moore, and as the teams headed to the locker room, the Pride led Salem by 34 points, 61-27.

Senior Aliyah Whiteside (Spindale, NC) started the third quarter with a jumper and Senior Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC) would get on the board, as well.  Once again, the Spirits were able to cut into the lead, but a layup by Legette kept it at 20 points, and then strong defense by Greensboro would shut down any Spirit scoring opportunities to end the quarter leading, 73-53.

The fourth quarter began with Palmore, Jennings and Moore scoring and then Mason pulled up for another three-pointer, to keep the Pride out in front.  After a Whiteside layup, Mason would, once again, drain another three-pointer and then layups by Jennings and Whiteside made the score 91-60.  Freshman Jasmine Mitchell (North Charleston, NC) would come in the game and score, along with Sophomore Tamera Hooker (Fayetteville, NC) and as the horn sounded, Greensboro would earn their 18th win of the season, 99-67.

Jennings finished the game with 26 points, to go along with 8 rebounds, while Mason added 17 points, which included 5 three-pointers.  Moore, Palmore and Livingston scored 13, 13 and 12 points respectively and Palmore also grabbed a total of 13 rebounds.  The Pride will return to action Wednesday, February 1st as they host Meredith College, in the second game of a doubleheader.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
