Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pride moves to 16-2 with home win over Methodist, 84-65

Greensboro, NC – The Greensboro College Women's Basketball team finished Saturday's doubleheader at Hanes Gymnasium with a big USA South Conference match-against Methodist University.  The two teams had previously met this season, with the Pride earning the win and they would do the same, as they defeated the Monarchs by a final score of 84-65.

Methodist jumped out to a quick four-point lead, but eventually a three-pointer by Senior Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC) put Greensboro out in front, 6-5.  The Monarchs were able to regain the lead and hold into it most of the quarter until the 1:19 mark, when Sophomore Aijah Palmore (Greensboro, NC) drove into the paint, to, once again, give the Pride the one-point lead.  However, as the quarter ended, Methodist would hold onto a one-point advantage, 24-23.

The second quarter began with a Legette basket , but as they did in the previous quarter, the Monarchs took the lead and held onto it for the next few minutes.  However, Senior
Karli Mason (Monroe, NC) would drain a three-pointer, which was followed by a layup from Senior Aliyah Whiteside (Spindale, NC), to give their team the seven-point lead.  Whiteside scored again, as the half was coming to an end, to send the Pride into the locker room with the lead, 43-34.

Mason would hit another three-pointer in the first moments of the third quarter and that was followed up by a basket from Palmore, to give Greensboro its first double-digit lead, 48-37.  Sophomore Audrey Jennings (Elkin, NC) got in on the scoring after taking a pass from Mason on a fast break and then Mason drained another Pride three-pointer to end the quarter with Greensboro leading, 64-50.

Sophomore Lauren Livingston (Greenwood, SC) grabbed a defensive rebound to start the fourth quarter, and went coast-to-coast for a layup, which was followed by a steal from Whiteside, who also went coast-to-coast.  Livingston would continue to score, draining wto shots in a row, which included a three-point play conversion.  A Whiteside three-pointer increased the lead to 26 points and Greensboro would continue to control the game for the conference win, 84-65.

Jennings led the Pride with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.  In addition, Mason finished with 14 points, including four three-pointers.  Palmore continued her dominance on the boards, grabbing a total of 12 to go along with her 11 points.  The Pride will return to action on Wednesday, January 25th as they host North Carolina Wesleyan University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm
