Greensboro, NC - In front of a packed Hanes Gymnasium, the Greensboro College Men's Basketball team kicked off the Saturday doubleheader as they hosted USA South foe Pfeiffer University. The Pride were looking to even up their conference record and they would put together their most complete game of the season, defeating the Falcons by a final score of 88-60.
The first half saw Pfeiffer jump out to an early three-point lead, but a layup by Junior
Tim Boulware (Greensboro, NC) evened things up and then a few possessions later, Senior
Ty Hill (Shallotte, NC) drained a three-pointer, giving the Pride their first lead of the game. Baskets by Junior
Isaiah Pruett (Asheville, NC) and Boulware increased the advantage to seven points, and at the 8:40 mark of the half, Junior
Matthew Brown (Orlando, FL) put his team up by double digits, 26-16. The lead would grow to 14 points after a Boulware dunk and eventually Greensboro found themselves ahead by 20 points, after two free throws from Senior
Kevon Wright (Greensboro, NC). The Falcons would attempt to cut into the advantage, but the Pride were able to go into the locker room with the lead, 44-30. Â
As the second half began, Pfeiffer trimmed the advantage to 10 points, but Boulware, Hill, Junior
Josh McQuinn (Westfield, NC) and Sophomore
Grant Thompson (Graham, NC) all answered on the offensive end of the court to keep any comeback at bay. Another Greensboro three-pointer by Wright put the lead back to 20 points, which was followed by a three-point play from Pruett, to give Greensboro their largest advantage of the game, 79-56. Junior
Rujon Walters (Kinston, NC), Sophomore
Jakai Belton (Gastonia, NC) and Freshman
Griifin Powell (Greensboro, NC) all came off the bench to hit three straight three-pointers and as the horn sounded, the Pride would came away with the win, to even up their conference record, 88-60.
Greensboro had four players finish in double figures with Brown leading the way with 13 points, while Wright and Boulware each had 12 points, followed by Pruett who added 10 points, In addition, Thompson dominated the boards grabbing a total of 15 rebounds in the game. The Pride will return to action Tuesday, January 24th, as the travel north to Virginia to face Mary Baldwin University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
