Staunton, VA – Wednesday presented another USA South Conference road trip for the Greensboro College Women's Basketball team as they traveled up north to the Commonwealth of Virginia to face Mary Baldwin University. This was the second meeting between the two teams this season and, as they did in the first meeting, the Pride would come away with the win, to stay perfect in the conference, 109-59.
Senior
Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC) took a pass from Sophomore
Audrey Jennings (Elkin, NC) for a quick basket to start the first quarter, and then she would do it again to tie the game up at 4-4. For the next few minutes, both teams traded baskets and eventually Legette would put Greensboro back out in front by two points, however, with 3:30 left in the quarter, Mary Baldwin was able to grab a one-point advantage, 14-13. The lead eventually grew to two points until Jennings drained a three-pointer from the wing, as time was winding down. Senior
Karli Mason (Monroe, NC) added a three-pointer of her own and as the quarter came to an end, the Pride held the lead 23-20.
Junior
Quadijah Moore (Greenwood, SC) and Jennings got things started in the second quarter scoring the first eight points, which included two straight three-pointers from Jennings. The Flying Squirrels would answer, but Sophomore
Lauren Livingston (Greenwood, SC) pulled up and hit another Greensboro three-pointer, to keep the advantage at eight points, 34-26. Once again, the two teams would trade baskets, but has she had done all half, Legette converted a layup to keep the lead at eight points. Moore gave the Pride their first double-digit advantage and as the teams headed to the locker room, Greensboro had increased their lead to 49-31.
The third quarter began with Livingston giving the Pride their largest lead of the game, so far, 51-31. A few possessions later Livingston would increase the advantage to 22 points and then free-throws by Legette pushed it up to 23 points. Mason continued to pick up where she left off last game, by draining two straight three-pointers, and a Sophomore
Azuria Barrino (Charlotte, NC) basket put the lead at 74-40. Mason would drain another three-pointer to end the quarter with the Greensboro leading 81-45.
Mason hit two more three-pointers, as the fourth quarter got on the way, and then four points from Barrino pushed the lead to 49 points. Sophomore
Sia'Deriona Oliver (Ocala, FL) came off the bench to get on the board and then a three-pointer by Sophomore
Tamera Hooker (Fayetteville, NC) put the Pride over the century mark, 101-49. Hooker would then make it a 54-point lead and as the buzzer sounded, Greensboro came away with the win over Mary Baldwin, 109-59.
Mason and Legette each finished the game with 18 points, while Livingston, Jennings and Moore added 17, 16 and 10 respectively. In addition, Sophomore
Aijah Palmore (Greensboro, NC) grabbed a team high 6 rebounds. The Pride will return to action this Saturday, January 21
st as they host Methodist University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00pm
