Greensboro, NC – The Greensboro College Men's Basketball team was back home in the friendly confines of Hanes Gymnasium on Wednesday night, as they hosted Brevard College in another USA South match-up. The Pride would stage a second half comeback, but they eventually fell to the Tornados by a final score of 70-63.
The first half saw Brevard jump out to a 6-2 lead, but baskets from Junior
Matthew Brown (Orlando, FL) and Junior
Joshua McQuinn (Westfiled, NC) kept Greensboro from letting the Tornados extend it. A few possessions later McQuinn would pull the Pride to within one point and eventually Junior
Isaiah Pruett (Asheville, NC) gave Greensboro their first lead of the game, 18-16. Both teams would trade baskets and the lead, and with 1:08 remaining in the half, the score was tied at 26-26. Brevard was able to gain a small advantage and, as the half came to an end, they went into the locker room leading the Pride by a score of 30-26.
Greensboro would fall behind by eight points to start the second half, until Senior
Kevon Wright (Greensboro, NC) converted a basket. Eventually, a Senior
Ty Hill (Shallotte, NC) three-pointer pulled the Pride to withing 38-36, but the Tornados would answer with a three-pointer of their own. Another three-pointer put them up 49-40, and they would eventually go ahead by double-digits. The Pride began a run and cut the lead to two points, after a Junior
Mason Sergi (Ashburn, VA) three-pointer, but that is as close as they could get, as they would fall to Brevard, 70-63.
Brown led Greensboro with 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Sophomore
Grant Thompson (Graham, NC) finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds. The Pride will return to action this Saturday, January 21
st as they host Pfeiffer University at Hanes Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
