Raleigh, NC - Sunday afternoon, against William Peace University, turned out to be a record setting day for the Greensboro College Women's Basketball team as Senior
Karli Mason (Monroe, NC) set the program's all-time single game record for three-pointers made and attempted. Mason drained 11 three-pointers on 23 attempts to help keep her team undefeated in the USA South, as the Pride defeated the Pacers by a final score of 107-71
Greensboro began the fist quarter fast, as they stormed out to a 13-6 lead behind Sophomore
Audrey Jennings (Elkin, NC), Mason, Sophomore
Lauren Livingston (Greenwood, SC) and Senior
Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC) baskets. William Peace was able to cut into the lead and trim it to four points, but a Livingston steal would turn into a layup by Jennings, followed by back-to back three pointers from Mason and Jennings, to increase the advantage to double-digits. Sophomore
Aijah Palmore (Greensboro, NC) joined in on the scoring and suddenly the Pride had their largest lead of the game, 25-13 and it would grow to 15-points after another three-pointer from Mason. The Pacers hit a couple three -pointers of their own, but as the quarter ended, Greensboro would hold the advantage, 30-19.
The second quarter started with two free-throws by Junior
Quadijah Moore (Greenwood, SC) and the Pride were off and running. Livingston drained a three-pointer and that was followed by a basket from Sophomore
Azuria Barrino (Charlotte, NC) and a few minutes later Mason converted a three-pointer to give Greensboro a commanding lead, 48-25. Palmore pushed the score to 50 for the visitors and after a Barrino layup, the teams headed into the locker room with the Pride ahead, 58-30.
Livingston opened the third quarter with a three-pointer and after two Jennings free-throws, the Greensboro lead was 30-points, only a minute and a half into the quarter. As she had done all game, Mason drained another three-pointer, which was followed by another one from Senior
Aliyah Whiteside (Spindale, NC) for the 71-33 advantage. The Pride continued to score and at the end of the quarter they held the lead, 88-44.
The fourth quarter saw Barrino open with a layup and she followed that up with two-free throws. Greensboro was able to take advantage of their defensive rebounds and Mason capitalized draining one three-pointer after another and with 5:20 remaining in the game, she set the all-time single game record for three-pointers made and attempted with her 11
th of the game on 23 tries. William Peace was unable to make any type of comeback and as the buzzer sounded the Pride would come away with the win, 107-71.
Mason finished the game with a season high 35 points, to go along with her record setting day, while Jennings added 18 points. In addition, Moore was the third player in double-digits with 14 and Barrino finished with a team high 10 rebounds. Greensboro will back in action Wednesday, January 18
th as they head to Virginia to face Mary Baldwin University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
