Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Greensboro forces overtime, but falls to NC Wesleyan, 98-88

Rocky Mount, NC – Finishing off the weekend with their second straight game in two days, the Greensboro College Men's Basketball team faced North Carolina Wesleyan University in a key USA South match-up.  It was a back-and-forth affair with the Pride forcing overtime, but they would ultimately fall to the Bishops by a final score 98-88.

The first half began with both teams trading baskets, until a three-pointer by Junior Isaiah Pruett (Asheville, NC) gave Greensboro the one-point advantage.  Another Pruett three-pointer kept the Pride out in front but NC Wesleyan scored the next four points take the lead, 13-10.  Senior Kevon Wright (Greensboro, NC) and Junior Matthew Brown (Orlando, FL) helped Greensboro regain the advantage and they would keep it mid-way though the half.  For the new few minutes, the lead would continue to change hands, until a basket by Junior Tim Boulware (Greensboro, NC) evened things up at 30-30, which was followed up by a Wright three-pointer.  A three-pointer from Junior Mason Sergi (Ashburn, VA) and a layup by Sophomore Grant Thompson (Graham, NC) gave the Pride their largest advantage of the half at five points, and they would eventually take the lead into the locker room, 40-37.

As he did to start the game, Pruett drained a three-pointer at the start of the second half and eventually Greensboro was out in front by nine points.  However, at the 13:57 mark, the Bishops pulled to within one point and a few minutes later grabbed a one-point lead, 59-58.  Pruett, Brown and Boulware were able to get the offense back on track, which allowed the Pride to get back into the game and after an Junior Erik Alvey (Durham, NC) layup, Greensboro had erased a 10-point deficit.  With 1:41 left in the game, the Pride trailed by four points, but a layup from Wright and then a basket from Senior Ty Hill (Shallotte, NC), with only 24 seconds left, forced the game into overtime.  Unfortunately, in overtime, NC Wesleyan was able gain control and as the buzzer sounded, Greensboro would fall by a final score of 98-88.

Pruett finished the game with 20 points, including 5 three-pointers, while Wright had 16 points and 8 assists.  In addition, Brown added 14 points, while grabbing 10 rebounds and Boulware finished with 10 points.  The Pride will return to action on Wednesday, January 18th as they host Brevard College at Hanes Gymnasium.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
