Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pruett and Hill combine for 9 three-pointers to help Pride defeat Southern Virginia 78-75

Buena Vista, VA – Road wins are not easy to come by in college basketball, especially when it is in conference play.  The Greensboro College Men's Basketball team understands this, and they knew the trip to Virginia would be challenging.  However, the Pride were able to capitalize on 11 three-pointers and withstand a last second effort from Southern Virginia University to earn the road win over the Knights, 78-75.

Junior Isaiah Pruett (Asheville, NC) began the first half with a three-pointer and a few possessions later Senior Ty Hill (Shallotte, NC) drained a three-pointer of his own to keep Greensboro ahead, 8-5.  They would hold onto their advantage until the 13:20 mark of the half, when Southern Virginia grabbed a one-point lead.  However, Juniors Erik Alvey (Durham, NC) and Rujon Walters (Kinston, NC) scored two straight baskets and that was followed up by another Hill three-pointer to, once again, put the Pride ahead.  They were able to increase the advantage to seven points and as the teams headed into the locker room, Greensboro would lead the Knights by a score of 32-31.

The beginning of the second half would see Southern Virginia start to click offensively and eventually take a three-point lead, 45-42.  Junior Josh McQuinn (Westfield, NC) came into the game to put the Pride back out in front and with 9:40 remaining in the game, they held a seven-point advantage.  Both teams would trade baskets, but the Knights slowly chipped away at the Greensboro lead and eventually tied the game at 64-64.  Alvey and Hill put the Pride back out in front and a jumper by Pruett, along with a free throw, allowed Greensboro to came away with the big conference road win over Southern Virginia, 78-75.

Pruett and Hill led their team in scoring with 20 and 19 points respectively, while combining for 9 three-pointers.  In addition, Sophomore Grant Thompson (Graham, NC) finished the game with 15 points.  The Pride will be back in action this Saturday as they travel to Methodist University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
