Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Return Victorious From the Road

Greensboro, N.C. - The Greensboro College Women's Soccer team picked up their second win in their last three outings as the bested Johnson & Wales University (Charlotte, NC) by a score of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

All hands were back on deck as Head Coach Mike Johnston returned to the sidelines after a one game absence last week. The first half of the game belonged to the Pride as they continued to work the ball into Wildcats' territory consistently to begin the contest. In fact, their favorable positioning would pay off rather early, as at the 17:37 mark a free kick was awarded to Taylor Harrison. Harrison sailed the ball toward the Wildcats' goal and a streaking Hannah McCarthy would head the ball into the back of the net for the icebreaker. The perfect play would put the Pride ahead by one, but the offensive damage was yet to be done.

Less than 4 minutes later McCarthy was making more plays and she sent a pass deep into Wildcats' territory and difference maker Jamayia Brown would rattle the cage with a quick strike of the ball and the Pride would find themselves by a pair. Defensively the Pride were solid, not allowing any shots and giving Sofia Pagnamenta a leisurely day at the office to this point. There would be no more scoring, and the half would end with Greensboro leading 2-0.

Lindsay Fox would relieve Pagnamenta at that start of the second half with Coach Johnston wanting to get his goalie some work under fire. The Wildcats did manage four shots in the second half and one of those did score at the 85:00 mark to cut the lead in half. What looked like a comfortable win now had the look of an uncertain outcome. However, Coach Johnston kept course with the group on the field and those ladies handled their assignments and when the scoreboard clock struck three zeros the celebration could begin as the Pride had the victory.

Head Coach Mike Johnston had these post-game comments: "We connected much better today, and we got up early with two great finishes. In the second half, we had some great buildup during the run of play. Really proud of our midfield, as a whole, as we did a much better job attacking and combining. We still need to avoid small lapses during games, but we continue to improve. Excited to start conference play this weekend."

The Greensboro College Women's Soccer team is scheduled to play Pfeiffer University on Saturday, October 1st, at Pride Field at 2:00PM.
