Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls To Undefeated Quakers

Greensboro, N.C.- The Greensboro College Women's Soccer team made the short drive to Armfield Athletic Center to play their crosstown rivals on Tuesday evening.

The Pride, coming off their first victory of the season, would again find themselves in yet another unique personnel situation as their Head Coach would not be on the sidelines for this area match-up. In a season of multiple line-ups due to injury and illness, the Pride front man Mike Johnston would be relegated to coaching from afar as he was in COVID protocol. Regardless, the Pride would be there ready to compete.

The first half of the game was a tight battle as Guilford had several opportunities but would not be able to connect and the score would be deadlocked at zeros at the break.

The second half of action would find the Quakers applying more pressure and at the 75:48 mark the scoreboard would change in favor of the home team. A perfectly placed shot on goal from distance would find the back of the net as Baylee Greenwood would break the scoreless stalemate. At that point, there was less than 15 minutes left in the contest and the Pride would be unable to mount any offensive pressure. The game would end at 1-0 as the Quakers would move their record to 5-0-1 on the season.

Head Coach Mike Johnston had these thoughts on the contest: "I thought we competed, and I am certainly pleased with the effort. The reality of it is this was our 3rd game in 4 days, which at this level is brutal. I felt in the second half we were fatigued, however I take nothing away from Guilford. They outplayed us in the second half and had an extremely quality finish. Coach Maulin and I are great friends, and our games are normally quite competitive and fun to watch. I also felt our staff did a great job in my absence and we were prepared. We look forward to some time off while preparing for our conference slate. Our entire program is excited to see what we can become."

The Greensboro College Women's Soccer team (1-5-1) will be back in action on September 5th, as they travel to Charlotte to play Johnson and Wales University. Game time will be 2:00PM.
