GREENSBORO, NC--The Pride baseball team hosted Averett for the second of three games on Saturday, with Averett coming out on top 3-2. The Pride also celebrated the contributions of Alex Morales,
Braxton Rupp,
Luke Pegram,
Peyton Ebel,
Aaron Smith,
Jared Rodriguez,
Devin Summers, Ned Flemister, and
Josh Pittman on Senior Day.
Greensboro was able to capitalize on three Cougar errors in the 6th inning to score their two runs, as
Braxton King sprinted home when Cam Edmonds stole 2nd and the catcher's throw sailed into the outfield.Â
Luke Pegram followed with a RBI-single to narrow the Averett lead to 3-2.Â
Averett got a solid outing out of their starting pitcher, Jake Braun, who pitched 7.2 innings with nine strikeouts. The Cougars would cling to a 3-2 lead heading into the 9th inning, and the Pride could not muster enough offensively to extend the game. Greensboro leftÂ
Branden McMillian on base as the tying run as the 9th inning rally ended on a strikeout.
Braxton Rupp led the way offensively for the Pride, going 2-4 with two doubles, and
Josh Pittman made the most of his opportunities as well, finishing 2-5 from the leadoff spot.
The Pride now stands at 14-21, and will look to finish the regular season strong as they host the Cougars tomorrow at 12pm.
