GREENSBORO, NC- The Pride baseball team finished up the regular season with a 6-5 win over Averett on Sunday afternoon at Ted Leonard Park.
Braxton King's keen eye from the batter's box brought in what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the 8th as he drew a walk with the bases loaded to break a 5-5 stalemate.
Greensboro fell behind early, but battled back to get on top 3-1 in the 3rd inning as
Luke Pegram started off the inning with a leadoff double.Â
Josh Pittman then drew a walk, followed byÂ
Jared Rodriguez coming through with a RBI-single to get the Pride on the board.Â
Spencer Claus did his job with a sacrifice fly to bring Pittman around to score, and
Braxton King got another run in to give GC a two run lead.
Averett would not go away quietly, getting a run back in the 6th and then three more in the top half of the 7th to take a 5-3 lead, capitalizing on two Pride fielding miscues.
But Greensboro showed its mettle by getting two back in the bottom of the 7th as
Adam Weber and Alex Morales both showed speed on the base paths to score on a Mo Lopez RBI-single.
Greensboro would push ahead the winning run in the bottom of the 8th after a walk from
Adam Weber followed by Alex Morales getting a two out single, then a stolen base from pich-runner
Jesse Barker. Mo Lopez also walked to load the bases before
Braxton King's drawn walk put GC up 6-5.
Alex Trepper came in to pitch the 9th, earning the save as
McKinnon Martinelli got the win for the Pride.
The Pride finishes the regular season at 15-21, and will look to grow in the offseason to be ready to compete next spring in the USA South.
