Pride Hangs on to Win Series over Pacers

RALEIGH, NC--Greensboro's baseball team finished off a three game road series at William Peace on Sunday, taking the rubber match 8-6.  Following up on Saturday's win, the Pride improve to 8-14 on the year after a stellar effort from starting pitcher McKinnon Martinelli, who went 7 1/3 innings and allowed just one earned run in the win.

Greensboro limited the Pacer offense to just eight hits on the afternoon, most of which came in the later innings with GC in the drivers seat.

A four run 7th inning for the Pride proved to be the difference as a walk by Branden McMillian with the bases loaded pushed Greensboro ahead 5-2, then another walk by Aaron Smith brought in another run.  Adam Weber's liner up the middle brought home two more runs, and Greensboro pushed ahead 8-2.

William Peace punched back with four runs in the final three frames, but Hayden Woods earned the save by closing out the final 2/3 of the 9th inning with a strikeout and forcing a flyout from the Pacers with the bases loaded.

Adam Weber's 2-4 day from the dish with two pivotal RBI paced the Pride offense, who gritted out eight runs on five hits for the afternoon.

The Pride will host the Maroons of Roanoke College on Tuesday, April 5th at 6pm.
