GREENSBORO, NC--Greensboro's baseball team hosted Averett on Friday night at Ted Leonard Park to begin the final series of the regular season. Averett came away with the 5-2 win as the Cougars were aggressive at the plate, hammering out 14 hits for the game.
Greensboro took an early lead off a double steal in the bottom of the 1st, where
Josh Pittman took home to put GC up 1-0. Pittman started the inning with a solid base hit up the middle, then
Adam Weber followed up with another single on a hit and run, sending Pittman to third base before swiping home.
Greensboro would hold the lead until back-to-back two run innings for the Cougars saw Averett take a 4-1 lead into the 5th inning.
Drake Carrick stepped into the batter's box in the 5th and hit an inside the park homerun to bring the Pride back to a 4-2 deficit, but Averett held off the Pride's comeback, as the offense went cold in the final innings. Cougar pitcher Avery Spicer went the distance from the mound, throwing a complete game and surrendering just five hits for the game.
The two teams will hit the diamond again tomorrow at 2pm at Ted Leonard Park to celebrate Senior Day.
