GREENSBORO, NC--Greensboro's baseball team hosted the Roanoke Maroons for a night game at Ted Leonard Park on Tuesday, falling 7-6.
Branden McMillian got the Pride on the board in the 2nd with a scorcher over the left field fence to bring in
Braxton Rupp and put the Pride up 2-0. Greensboro kept the pressure up with three more runs in the 3rd, including a 2-RBI base hit from Alex Morales to bring
Jared Rodriguez and
Luke Pegram around to score that put GC ahead 5-1.
Braxton Rupp hit the second homerun for the Pride on the day with a solo-shot to left field with one out in the 6th which put GC ip 6-2. The Pride offense would go silent for the final three innings, allowing Roanoke to claw back into the game.
The Maroons scored three in the top of the 7th, aided by a critical Greensboro fielding error, and then would score the tying and go-ahead runs in the 8th off a Hunter Andrews RBI-single gave Roanoke a 7-6 lead.
Greensboro got the tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the 9th, but could not get the tying run across as
Josh Pittman was stranded on second base to end the ballgame.
GC now sits at 11-19 on the year, and will travel to Buena Vista, VA for a three game series with the Knights beginning on Friday at 3pm.
