GREENSBORO, NC--The Pride's men's lacrosse team battled with Piedmont for a Friday afternoon tilt, coming away with the 15-7 defeat.
Ethan Pierce started the scoring midway through the 1st quarter at the 7:33 mark, assisted by
Aaron Larios-Neubert to tie up the game at 1 on the extra-man opportunity.Â
Austin Abourjilie quickly folloowed up with a goal of his own, at 6:54 of the 1st to put the Pride on top 2-1. Piedmont answered back with three straight goals before Will Beyer found the back of the net to cut the lead to 4-3 going into the 2nd quarter.
Greensboro tied things up again after a successful clear when
Aaron Larios-Neubert found paydirt to tie the game at 4-4 at the 11:24 mark. Greensboro would get on the board once more at 3:42 left in the half with a goal by Dom Scali, with an assist from
Ethan Pierce cutting the Lions lead to 6-5 at the break.
Piedmont seized all momentum coming out of halftime, outscoring the Pride 5-0 in the pivotal 3rd quarter, which proved to be the difference in the game. Connor Rogers led the way for the Lions with five goals on the day, and Piedmont sat on a lead for most of the 4th period, and coming away with a 15-7 win on Pride Field.
Chris Stallings made 17 saves in net for the Pride, as well as gathered five groundballs in the losing effort. Â
Greensboro now stands at 8-5Â on the season, and will next head to Southern Virginia on Wednesday at 5pm for a key game in the USA South race.
