Pride Opens Series vs Bishops

HIGH POINT, NC--Greensboro's baseball team opened a three game series against NC Wesleyan at Rockers Stadium, winning game one 14-2 in eight innings, and losing game two 13-4.

In game one, Jake Baldini pitched a masterpiece from the mound, surrendering just one run in a complete game effort in eight innings of work.

GC stormed ahead early after Alex Morales hit a 2-RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd to put the Pride up 2-0, then would move ahead 4-1 in the 4th after Drake Carrick's RBI-triple and Devin Summers' RBI-single brought Carrick around to score.

Braxton Rupp kept the pressure on in the 5th by bringing in Adam Weber with a RBI-single to left field.
Greensboro then forced a pitching change in the 7th after Carrick again singled to bring in two more runs, then Devin Summers hit a 3-run big fly to make it 11-1 for the Pride.

Greensboro handed NC Wesleyan's starting pitcher, Derrick Carter, his first loss of the season, as the Pride pounded the Bishops for 14 hits, including a 3-4 day from both Morales and Summers, and Drake Carrick, Braxton Rupp, and Luke Pegram each turned in a two-hit day as well.

Game two saw NC Wesleyan jump out to a 2-0 lead before Braxton Rupp's RBI-double in the 4th cut the lead in half at 2-1 for NC Wesleyan.  Drake Carrick brought Rupp around to score on a RBI-single, which tied things up.

The Bishops then took control in the 6th inning with four runs on four hits, including a RBI-double from Jackson Hobbs to push the lead to 7-3 for the Bishops.  They would get four more in the 8th and tack on two in the 9th in the 13-4 victory.

Myles Vacharasin and Josh Pittman provided two base hits from the plate, but the Pride left 10 runners on base in the loss.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow at Rockers Stadium at 11am for the series finale.
