Greensboro, NC
Greensboro's
Cheyanne Cox was called upon to shoulder the load for the Pride on Saturday, March 5, as they hosted Randolph College.Â
In game one, Cox was dominant in her complete game effort. In seven innings pitched, she surrendered just four hits and two walks, getting the shutout.
Greensboro's
Alexis Sox opened the scoring with a blast over the left field fence to give the Pride a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning.Â
Kassie Simmons' RBI double in the 6th inning gave Greensboro a 2-0 lead, and Greensboro would get another insurance run to push the lead to 3-0. This was more than enough for Cox and the Pride defense, who fended off the Wildcats' attempt to come back.
In game two, Cox was asked to go again as Randolf was able to score four runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Cox arrived in relief of
Kassie Simmons, and again willed the Pride to victory. She got the Pride out of a jam in the 3rd, and would shut down the Wildcats for the remainder of the game. Greensboro would go on to win 5-4, as leadoff hitter
Caroline Stanley went 2-3 plus a walk for the game, and
Tatum Gregory scored what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the 3rd.
The Pride improves to 6-1 on the season, and looks to keep winning as they head to Brevard on Wednesday, March 9 at 2pm.
