GREENSBORO, NC--Greensboro's softball team earned a hard-fought split with Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon (March 19th) at Latham Park.
Cheyanne Cox went eight strong innings for the Pride, striking out 13 Eagles, including #500 in her storied career in the first inning.
Kassie Simmons' RBI double in the bottom of the first put the Pride ahead 1-0, but Greensboro struggled to muster any offensive momentum off of Bridewater's pitcher, Samantha Martin. Martin limited Greensboro to just one run on five hits.
Bridgewater tied the game in the 6th inning, then won in 8 innings off a 2-run homerun from Sarah Wimer.
In game two, the Pride were able to sustain its offensive production, getting six runs on 12 hits in the 6-4 win.
Kailey Walker's 2-RBI double in the 6th proved to be the game-winner, breaking the 4-4 stalemate.
Kassie Simmons went 2-4, including an RBI, and
Jamie Hammer's 2-2 day and a walk gave the Pride offense a boost.
Simmons pitched another complete game, going seven innings and surrendering just one earned run. She improves to 4-1 on the season, and the Pride move to 10-4 following the split doubleheader.
Greensboro will next head across town to face Guilford College on Wednesday, March 23rd at 2:00 PM
