Pride Powers Past Quakers

GREENSBORO, NC--Greensboro's softball team broke out the bats on Tuesday, as they traveled across town to face the Guilford Quakers.  Starting pitcher Cheyanne Cox went all seven innings from the mound in game one, throwing a complete game shutout.  She allowed just two hits and a walk, while fanning 12 Quakers.

Greensboro stayed in a pitching duel until the 4th inning, when Jamie Hammer hit a RBI-double to right center, bringing in the first run of the game.  Then Kassie Simmons broke the dam with a 3-run homer to center field in the 6th that was part of a five run inning.  Olivia Davidson finished off the scoring with a 2-RBI single that scored Cheyanne Cox and Jamie Hammer.

Cox would finish the game with a three up, three down inning to give the Pride the win.

Game two saw the Pride offense in high gear, as they scored 11 runs on 12 hits.

Ema Musick got the scoring started with a RBI-single to right center to bring in Taeya Moloney to make the score 2-1 Guilford in the 4th inning.  Kailey Walker's RBI-base hit in the 6th inning pushed the Pride ahead 4-3, and Ivy Ray followed with a liner up the middle to bring in another and push the Pride ahead at 5-3.

Guilford did not go quietly, with Ally Morales hitting a game-tying 2-run homerun to tie the game at 6, which would send the game into extra innings.

Hannah King's single in the 9th inning put the Pride back on top at 7-6, but Guilford would answer again in the bottom of the frame.  It was not until the 10th inning that the Pride was able to put the game out of reach.

Olivia Davidson singled down the right field line to bring in the go-ahead run at 8-7, followed by Ivy Ray's 2-RBI double to left center.  Kassie Simmons put the exclamation point on the hard-fought victory with a RBI-single, increasing the lead to 11-7 that would become the final score.

Greensboro's sweep moves them to 12-4 on the season, and they will look to stay on track, traveling to William Peace this Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
