The Pride's stifling defense was on display Monday night, as Greensboro defeated Methodist 64-55. Greensboro forced 14 turnovers and held the Monarchs to just 36% shooting from the field in the game. The Pride jumped out to a 16-4 lead after
Kevon Meertins assisted Joshua McQuinn for a layup at the 12:40 mark of the first half. From there, Greensboro turned up the intensity on the defensive end, giving up just 25 points in the first half.
Greensboro would lead by as many as 18 points in the second half after a 3-point basket by
Zach Moser beat the shot clock. However, Methodists' Dante Burden would bring the Monarchs back to within six (61-55) with 1:05 left on the clock after a fast break layup. The Pride were able to hit free throws down the stretch to close out the win at 64-55.Â
Greensboro was led by
Kevon Meertins and
Keyshawn Dorsey with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Greensboro is back in action this Thursday (February 3rd) as they host William Peace University at 7:00 PM.
