Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pride pick up road conference win over Pfeiffer, 78-63

Misenheimer, NC - On Tuesday evening the Greensboro College Women's Basketball team traveled to Pfeiffer University for a USA South Conference match-up. This would begin a stretch of four games in 10 days for the Pride and they started it off on a positive note, coming away with their fourth win of the season, 78-63.

Both teams began the first quarter playing solid defense, but it would be Sophomore Audrey Jennings (Elkin, NC) to get the scoring started by draining a three-pointer.  The Falcons answered with a basket of their own, but Sophomore Aijah Palmore (Greensboro, NC) took a pass from Junior Quadijah Moore (Greenwood, SC) to finish a layup and put her team up by three points.  The scoring would continue, and Senior Karlie Mason (Monroe, NC) took advantage of it by draining a three-pointer from the wing.  Jennigs added another basket and free throw, which was followed by a jumper from Senior Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC), putting Greensboro ahead 19-6 and that is how the quarter would end.

The Pride continued to control the game in the second quarter as Mason would hit another three-pointer and that was followed up by two free throws each by Sophomore Lauren Livingston (Greenwood, SC) and Moore to take a commanding lead, 26-8. Pfeiffer started to find their rhythm, but Legette hit a three-pointer to stop their scoring and put her team up by 16 points, 38-22. Another Mason basket would put Greensboro up by 18 points and that is how the half would end with the Pride leading 40-22.

After a Falcons basket to start the third quarter, Mason would drain another three-pointer and they would keep their double-digit lead and eventually push it back up to 18 points after a Livingston three-point basket. While Pfeiffer was able to find the basket on a few possessions, the Greensboro defense continued to play tough, which allowed them to keep their advantage and as the quarter would come to an end, they led the Falcons by a score of 59-39.

The fourth quarter began with a Pfeiffer basket but after another Livingston three-pointer, the Pride were holding onto a 19-point advantage, 69-50. However, the Falcons began to make a run and were able to cut the lead to 12 points, but Jennings stopped their momentum after being fouled and converting a three-point play. A Legette three-pointer increased the lead back to 16 points and as the game came to an end, Greensboro would come away with the win, 78-63.

Mason led the Pride on the night finishing with 18 points, which included 4 three-pointers. In addition, Legette finished the game with 15 points, while Livingston added 12 points. On the boards, Moore led the team grabbing 14 total rebounds in the game. Greensboro will be back in action at home this Saturday as they host Mary Baldwin at Hanes Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
