Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball cruises to 83-51 win over Mary Baldwin

Greensboro, NC - Playing their first of three games in six days, the Greensboro College Women's Basketball team hosted USA South foe, Mary Baldwin, at Hanes Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.  The Pride was looking to stay undefeated in conference play, while also starting this stretch on a winning note.  They would waste no time and control the game from start to finish, defeating the Fighting Squirrels, 83-51.

Two baskets by Junior Quadijah Moore (Greenwood, SC) and three-pointers from Sophomore Audrey Jennings (Elkin, NC) and Senior Karli Mason (Monroe, NC) gave Greensboro the quick 10-0 lead, to start the first quarter.  Mary Baldwin would pull to within four points, but eventually, the Pride grabbed a double-digit advantage after another Mason three-pointer.  As the quarter was coming to an end, Sophomore Aijah Palmore (Greensboro, NC) scored two straight baskets and then Moore would put Greensboro up by 14 points, 25-11.

The second quarter saw Moore give the Pride their largest lead, so far, 31-11, and that was eventually followed by a three-point basket from Sophomore Lauren Livingston (Greenwood, SC).  At the 3:00 mark of the quarter, Junior Nataya Atwater (Hampton, GA) came into the game and drained a three-pointer, which was followed by layups by Palmore and Senior Ta'Keria Legette (Latta, SC) to give Greensboro a 46-22 advantage, as the half ended.

Early in the third quarter, the Pride pushed their lead to 29 points and after a Legette layup, the lead was suddenly 55-24.  Free throws by Jennings increased the advantage to 33 points and Greensboro would find themselves ahead by 35 points after Sophomore Azuria Barrino (Charlotte, NC) converted two free throws.  They would stay ahead by over 30 points and at the end of the quarter, held a 67-37 advantage.

The fourth and final quarter was much of the same for the Pride as a Barrino jumper gave her team a lead of 75-39 and then Freshman Jasmine Mitchell (North Charleston, SC) came off the bench to give Greensboro their largest advantage of the game, 81-41.  Mitchell scored again and when the final horn sounded, the Pride would move to 5-2 on the season and 3-0 in the USA South with the 83-51 victory.

Moore and Legette both finished the game with 14 points each, while Jennings added 13 points.  Palmore led Greensboro with 7 total rebounds and Mason finished the day with 5 steals and 3 assists.  The Pride is back in action this Tuesday, December 13th when they host William Peace in another USA South Match-up.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
